After implementation of electronic publication of Trademark Journal, IPO Pakistan has now implemented the electronic publication of Patents as “Patents Journal” on weekly basis at the official website like other advance countries of the world. The timely publication and availability to the public will reduce the process time. Before this achievement, the Patent office was publishing information of patent application in Official Gazette (part-V) in hard printed form that is being printed by Printing Corporation of Pakistan (PCP) that takes a notable process time.

The Patents (Amendments) Act, 2016 has been promulgated and came into force with effect from 19th May, 2016. This states that the date of advertisement of gazette notification wherever appearing in the Patent Ordinance, 2000 shall be the date on which the “Patents Journal” is published or uploaded on the website of Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan or printed in hard form in the relevant part of Official Gazette, whichever is earlier. The electronic publication of Patent Journal / Gazette will improve accessibility and circulation of patent information in timely manner.
