Everyone dreams of expanding their business beyond borders. Entrepreneurs strive for global awareness of our brand. Building goodwill and brand reputation across the country can seem difficult. However, it may seem like a stretch to get publicity and protect your brand internationally. We thank our World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) for continuing to propose measures to protect the intellectual property rights of people around the world.
The Vienna Code Classification is one of the international classification systems for symbolic brand elements. This classification helps companies to facilitate the international protection of their brand. This elegant and unique classification simplifies the search for brands. It also reduces the need to reorganize brands when launching in a new country.
Countries party to the Vienna Convention use this classification as the primary or secondary classification system for trademarks. This advanced grading system is so detailed that there are several elements in each class and section. This in turn makes it easier to identify waiting opportunities.
This grading system is very useful for those who create their brand logo. This classification allows you to quickly search among millions of brand numbers available worldwide.
In addition, countries must retain documents relating to the categories, stages and breakdowns of trademark classification, such as registrations, publication of documents, and renewal certificates.
The Essence of the Vienna Classification
This system is hierarchical and begins with a general category and extends to specific departments and sections. There are two types of sections, namely, supplementary section and main section. The plugin contains graphical elements that are already in the main section, but that will help you with your search. The system also includes explanations where appropriate.
Furthermore, the classification follows the digital coding system. The number of sections and divisions depends on the category of the article. Usually the first number is from 1 to 29 which indicates the group and the second number is from 1 to 19 which indicates the division. During this time, the third digit can range from 1 to 30 and indicate the section.
During sorting, some numbers were proactively left blank to make it easier to enter new sections or sections later.
Vienna classification Assistant
To make the trademark registration process simple and understandable, WIPO has developed an artificial intelligence-based tool that enables easy classification of trademarks according to the Vienna classification system.
We only need to upload the brand image. The intuitive AI wizard guides you through the selection steps. First, the tool shows the main categories. In addition, appropriate categories are distinguished and their importance evaluated. This allows the user to quickly classify the character. Assistant Vienna also offers the possibility to choose the appropriate departments and areas for the brand. When the user selects an additional part, the tool also reminds them to select at least one main part.
Descriptions of custom features such as auto-selection and cropping are available in the wizard’s Help menu. WIPO offers this excellent tool for free on its website. In addition, WIPO organized a webinar on 12 August 2020 to introduce everyone to the aspects of the tool.
WIPO continues to surprise us with our efforts to simplify the process of intellectual property protection. The WIPO Vienna Classification Assistant is an important step towards simplifying classification and branding.
